ERIC “NEALANTE” PHILLIPS

“Nealante'” Phillips is a American songwriter and music producer. He was born December 24, 1975 in Atlanta, Georgia He first became intrested in music at the age of 11, where he started playing drums at Sky Haven elementery. He continued his musical career in high school where he became the leader of the drum section in the marching band at Walker High School now known as Mcnair Sr. High. During his high school career he started producing for the hit group Jodeci as a goast producer in The basement crew aka Swing Mob, from which he met and started working under Tim Mosley best known as Timbaland.

I Got to interview the amazing Producer / songwriter “NEALANTE” Phillips , beyond honored for this opportunity . When I listen to music normally the beat is what catch my attention first ! If I could make a beat ……. Boy if I could make a beat lol .. I don’t know where I would start or what instruments to bring in first but I will say it takes hard work and dedication to perfect that craft . MISSCHLOE: Now when you say “Platnum Producer where stars are being born ” explain that to me ?

NEALANTE PHILLIPS: Well the platinum producer part is simply from having records that went platnum. “Where Stars are born”… I say that because most producers can only make a hit on a hit artist but I’ve made my ground making hits on artist when no one knew who they were and now they are stars…

MISSCHLOE: ha ! Wow I never even thought of it like that but your exactly right now that I think about some of the artist and producers.

MISSCHLOE: So tell me since I am just so curious to share, but if you could name a few artist you have produced for ?

NEALANTE PHILLIPS: Jodeci, Timbaland&Magoo, Aaliyah, 2pac, Usher, Tlc, Destiny’s Child, Beyonce’ just to name a few.

MISSCHLOE: nothing but greatness in the bunch you’ve named .

MISSCHLOE: Aside from talent what Qualities in an artist really stand out for you ?

NEALANTE PHILLIPS: Work ethic and attitude… Artist with good work ethics and attitudes are open to being molded in to stars. They are much easier to work with than say a Artist that has had a piece of stardom.

MISSCHLOE: What Motivated you to get in this side of the music business ?

NEALANTE PHILLIPS : Just the love of music itself. I felt like I had a sound that I wanted to share with the world… many don’t know that I was the original sound behind jodeci and Timbaland… That’s what the song from Rico love is about not me but himself in the same place where you have many songs under your belt but they (the people) don’t know you did them.

MISSCHLOE: wow !!! Simply amazing !!!

MISSCHLOE: when did you know you wanted to become a producer ? Was there a song or artist in particular that inspired you to be a producer ?

NEALANTE PHILLIPS: I actually started being a producer because there was this group when I was in high School who’s music I didn’t like and decide I could do it better.. but I’ve always been inspired by Devante’ Swing…he is my mentor.

MISSCHLOE: Do you perfer originality or conformity, even if it won’t make you as much money ?

NEALANTE PHILLIPS : I like orginal…I have my own sound and I never try to sound like anyone else. I’m not saying sounding like someone else doesn’t work but that’s just not what I prefer.

MISSCHLOE: Is there an artist you want to work with that you have not yet had the opportunity to work with ?

NEALANTE PHILLIPS : I would love to work with Alicia Keys to me she’s just different.

MISSCHLOE: yes !! Special shout out to the amazing Alicia Keys . She really is different , and to see her live would be so amazing !!

MISSCHLOE: what is distinctive about “Nealante Productions ”

NEALANTE PHILLIPS : Layered hard hitting kicks and snares over a melodic piano or rodes. I still use old sounds when it comes to keys. Most these days use virtual instruments, I still use hardware. Ive always created my own sounds by layering and using tweeking the Lfo’s so knowing how to do that gives a producer endless ways to create. Timbaland is the same way.

MISSCHLOE: Shheesshhh !!! Seems like it’s so much that you have to know in molding/creating a hit .

MISSCHLOE: do you have a favorite musical project that you’ve worked on ?

NEALANTE PHILLIPS : Nope I love them all but I had so much fun working with Keith Sweat.

MISSCHLOE: what other producers , songwriters and / or artist do you see as your primary inspirations ?

NEALANTE PHILLIPS: Timbaland of course, Rodney Jenkins, Stargate, Ester Dean

MISSCHLOE: you have said one of my favorites !! “ESTER DEAN” I feel like some people sleep on her . She’s def a Win in my book!

MISSCHLOE: What can we expect from you The rest of this year and 2015 ?

NEALANTE PHILLIPS : Im currently working on branding a few indie artist. I have Suave, Rickie Blow, And Kwony Cash all blowing in 2015.

MISSCHLOE: I’ll be ready to tune in for that !! S/O to the team !!

MISSCHLOE: what do you like to do for fun outside of working on music ?

NEALANTE PHILLIPS: Anything and everything with my family. I just love enjoying life.

MISSCHLOE: family couldn’t get no better .

MISSCHLOE: do you have any advice for young people who want to become a well rounded producer / songwriter ?

NEALANTE PHILLIPS: Number 1, learn the business that is so important. The misconception is that your talent alone is all you need to get you in but that is far from the truth. This business is 10% talent and 90% political. Number 2 study your craft and be the best at it. Set the status quo.
